Annestacia accused pleads guilty - but alleges intimidation

The man accused of the rape and murder of 11-year-old Annestacia Wiese has pleaded guilty. He has however also stated that police intimidated him into confessing in front of a magistrate.

Richard Engelbrecht, the 29-year-old security guard confessed to raping and murdering Annestacia Wiese in her Elsies River home after promising to take her to the Mitchells Plain Promenade. He then hid the body in the ceiling and pretended not to know where the girl was. Also in his confession, he stated that he was under the influence of tik and Mandrax and was therefore not criminially responsible for his actions.

Engelbrecht was given the option to not make the confession due to the alleged police threat, but chose to make it nonetheless.

Acting judge Richard Brusser, has not yet pronounced him guilty as Engelbrecht has stated that he was under the influence of drugs.

Engelbrecht has also pleaded not guilty to a charge relating to the rape of a 3-year-old girl.
