A 78-year-old woman was locked in a stationery store in Somerset Mall when the mall itself was supposedly evacuated in response to a bomb scare that occurred in last week.

The woman said that she was browsing around for books in the stationery store and heard the telephone ringing. When she looked up she then noticed that she was alone in the shop, with the entrance locked. On looking out of the window, she realised that all the other stores in the mall were locked as well.

She was discovered approximately 25 minutes later, when search parties saw her standing near the shop window. She managed to let them know that she was locked inside and they left to find a key.

Chris van der Merwe, owner of PNA, acknowledged with regret that the incident took place and promised to investigate the matter.
