Temporary night time road closures on Hospital Bend

The Eastern Boulevard inbound carriageway is to be closed to traffic from the De Waal Drive split at the top of Hospital Bend from Sunday, 3 May to Thursday, 7 May inclusive from 23:00 each night until 05:00 the next morning.

During these times all city-bound traffic on Hospital Bend will continue towards the city centre along De Waal Drive.

The reason for the temporary closure is to allow the contractor, Haw & Inglis, to complete the erection of the temporary support structures for the construction of the new De Waal Drive Bridge over the Eastern Boulevard inbound lanes.

Traffic travelling to town via Eastern Boulevard will be diverted from De Waal Drive inbound to De Waal Drive outbound via an existing break in the separation between the carriageways approximately 950 metres after the De Waal Drive Eastern Boulevard split, and then via Upper Roodebloem Road onto Eastern Boulevard inbound.
Traffic can also stay on De Waal Drive to proceed to the city centre.

"The detour will be clearly marked. Officers of Cape Town Traffic Services will be in attendance to assist the public. We thank users of this route for their patience," says Project Manager Bertie Byker of the City's Roads and Stormwater Department.
