South African College Schools (SACS) headmaster, Ken Ball, and several matric examination invigilators are to be investigated by the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) after opening the incorrect set of examination question papers.

Brian Schreuder, head of Education, Planning and Development at the WCED confirmed that on Wednesday, 10th October 2007, invigilators opened the English 2nd Paper questionnaire which was due to be written a day later. They discovered the error whilst preparing to hand out the paper out to learners, and resealed it. Schreuder also emphasised that none of the exam scripts had been given out to the learners.

Schreuder also stated that there are specific procedures in place to ensure that the correct examination papers are being opened.

An investigation will be launched to determine if the headmaster and invigilators had followed the correct procedure. Disciplinary action may be taken against those involved if the investigation shows any discrepancies.
