Cape Town's top ten traffic offenders

Cape Town's ten worst traffic offenders are all taxi drivers, with a total of 283 warrants of arrest and fines amounting to R182 450 pending against them.


According to the latest list released by Cape Town Traffic Services, the owners of the following vehicles are being sought:

* Toyota CA 765 056 36 (R41 950) - already apprehended

* Nissan CA 224 524 36 (R41 100)

* Toyota CA 662 720 34 (R33 200)

* Toyota CA 73 052 33 (R26 100)

* Toyota CA 308 098 23 (R13 300)

* Toyota CA 643 703 20 (R6 200)

* Toyota CA 106 314 26 and Volkswagen CA 150 407 (R14 800) - same owner

* Toyota CA 481 560 25 and Toyota CA 737 126 (R15 100) - same owner

* Toyota CA 410 068 22 and Toyota CY 190 961 (R14 200) - same owner

* Toyota CA 515 644 28 and Toyota CA 50 028 (R18 450) - same owner

"Traffic officers have been unable to track them down as the vehicles are either unregistered or the owners moved residences and failed to notify the authorities of their change of address," says Principal Inspector Merle Lourens.

"Motorists who can assist in identifying these vehicles are urged to contact the Metro Police Control Centre at 0860 POLICE (0860 765 423) with any information."

"Once apprehended, they face having to pay the outstanding fines owing as well as an amount determined by the Magistrate for contempt of court," she says.
