Three police officers based at the Delft Police Station are to appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court today for Defeating the Ends of Justice. The officers were implicated, in two separate incidents, when irregular conduct was discovered in their actions during the course of their duties.

In the first instance, a murder suspect was allegedly released from police custody before an investigation was launched to charge him. The suspect had allegedly fatally stabbed a 33-year-old man in Belhar, and is still being sought by police detectives.

The second instance, resulted in two officers arrested for irregular conduct in processing a criminal case docket. Their conduct prevented a proper investigation from taking place and the consequent failure to prosecute a potential suspect.

Police spokesperson, Superintendent Billy Jones, said that the arrests form part of their ongoing intiative to rid police stations of alleged criminal elements. He further stated that they are in the process of taking disciplinary action against the officers.
