Superintendent Piet Viljoen has told the Cape High Court how he became suspicious about the apparent robbery that occurred at the Petersen home on the night of Taliep Petersen's murder.

When Viljoen arrived at the Petersen house the following morning and found that the safe still contained valuable items, he immediately knew that something was amiss.

His suspicions were further aroused when his wife Najwa Petersen, who now stands accused of murdering her husband, seemed desparate to not hand over her cellphone for analysis. It later emerged that Najwa Petersen deleted the last number that was dialed before the murder - the number which belonged to Fahiem Hendricks who is now a State witness in the trial.

The trial continues.
