The Western Province Rugby Union (WPRU), who are facing a financial crisis, has announced that they will no longer be paying out grants to its constituents.

Unimpressive performances in both the Currie Cup and Super14 have caused the size of the crowds at Newlands Stadium to dwindle considerably. This has had a major impact on the financial situation of the WPRU.

The latest development comes after the Chief Executive of the WP Rugby have looked for ways to cut some of the costs faced by the Union. Reports have also surfaced which says that the Union has sold off most of its assets and is considering the sale of the Newlands Stadium itself.
