Sacs headmaster, Ken Ball, has been found guilty of negligence and was fined after an incorrect examination paper was handed out to students during the Matric 2007 final examinations. The mistake caused 21 000 pupils to rewrite their English setwork examination paper.

According to Brian Schreuder, head of Education, Planning and Development at the Western Cape Education Department, Ball pleaded guilty to the charge of negligence and will be fined. He did not comment on the amount of money to be paid over to the Education Department.

Ball will not face demotion, nor stand to lose his job.

On Wednesday, 10th Oct 2007, invigilators at SACS college handed out the incorrect examination paper to matric students. The mistake was discovered during the handout, and the questionnaires recollected and sealed. Though Schreuder assured the public at the time, that none of the papers were handed out, it was later discovered that the content of the questionnaires had in fact "leaked" to surrounding schools - meaning that the questionnaires had been handed out and some of their content was read. As a result 21 000 matriculants had to rewrite the examination.
